what exactly does haste do for ferals?

[:1]i've always wondered.. i even did a few experiments and reforged all haste.

my energy gained per second went from 10, to 10.8 ish, so about 8 extra energy every ten seconds.

my weapon speed went from .9 to .87 ish, about a .03 Hit per second inscrease.

that was about it, and they weren't even really noticeable, i discovered those by reading the character stats tab.

we don't do a lot of casting, ever, except for the off heals which are mostly all instant cast anyway or channeled tranq every once in a while when you can manage to find yourself being left alone, so the casting speed benefit is irrelevent.

so, please clarify, what does haste do for us that makes it equal to crit and almost equal to mastery?
Over a 3 minute fight (180 seconds), energy gain goes from 1800 energy to 1944 energy. That's almost 1.5 full energy bars.

Over the same 3 minute fight, with your numbers, you gain about 6 more white hits...from the number stated with energy seems like the gain in attack speed should be more than the 3.6% haste you give.

Basically? 10% haste gives 10% more white hits in the same time.

10% haste gives 10% more energy, allowing 10% more special attacks in the same time.

Cat abilities are limited by energy, not so much GCDs. Damage per energy * Energy per second = Damage per second.

Now it's harder to see, because hey, crit = big number! It's less obvious when you're getting 10% more attacks per boss.

haste gives:

increased energy regeneration at a linear rate (ie: 10% haste = 10% more energy).

faster white attacks, also linear (10% haste = 10% more autoattacks).

the latter then gives more Omen of Clarity procs, as it is a %chance with no ICD.

in effect, more haste gives a kitty more shreds (swipes, bites) over the course of a fight.

so basically haste just means you get to use more basic abilities and white hits in the course of a longer fight.. seems like a PvE stat.

I think i'll stick with Crit > mastery > haste. i enjoy PvP more than i get to PvE, and in PvP, especially the comps i usually play with (like a sub rogue for 2v2), burst > sustained. i don't see a problem with me trading a small amount of my sustained damage for quicker combo point generation for both of us. if we both get to use finishing moves more often, i'm pretty sure that cancels out the small drop in bleed damage XD plus, bleed ticks crit more often as well, which also negates the lost DPS, and in 5v5 we are an all dps team i usually end up just TF-Zerk-Swipe spam, and crit >>>>> mastery in that situation, and since 5v5 matches never last more than a minute or so, extra haste would do me absolutely no good..

i've just kept reading that haste is a good stat but i've never noticed it do much, just thought i'd ask what it actually does. seems to be more a raiding stat than a PvP stat.

good to know!

yes, haste is terrible for ferals in pvp mostly due to (lack of) time on target.

you can make arguments for crit or mastery, but you seem to have a pretty good grasp of that. for most situations mastery is best. a 5s burst comp is a pretty good place for crit, but i'm pretty sure Master Datah keeps his mastery setup on his 120+ wins undefeated sub / feral team ;).
